Graduation Generation is a collaborative initiative designed to improve student academic performance and increase students’ chances for success in high school and beyond. Graduation Generation (aka Grad Gen) is a partnership between Communities In Schools of Atlanta, Emory University, Atlanta Public Schools and the Zeist Foundation, a long-time supporter of communities and schools in East Atlanta. Consistent with the CIS model, Grad Gen also collaborates with other partners to bring volunteers and other resources to support students throughout the Maynard Jackson High School cluster of middle and elementary schools.
Grad Gen was launched in 2010 through a $1 million donation by philanthropist and businessman Rick Rieder, an Emory alumnus/trustee, Managing Director of BlackRock, Inc, and member of the CIS National Leadership Council. The video below is an overview of the 2015 Choose Success awards dinner featuring remarks by Mr. Rieder as the Anne Cox Chambers Champion for Kids Award recipient, U.S. Olympian Tim Morehouse, and a special surprise announcement from BlackRock's John Hyland!
The video below features remarks by Mr. Rieder and includes footage from a September 2013 event where medal-winning Olympians and Paralympians gathered at Maynard Jackson High School to address students about overcoming adversity and achieving goals.
